Jack London Market Building
Oakland, CA
2009
Boundless Pond is installed in the lobby of the $150 million Market Building on the water in Oakland, CA. The sculptural image: rings emanating across a “liquid” surface radiate through an abstract pattern representing flow, abundance and the interactivity of the Market. This pattern has been formed through a series of curves that rhythmically send a secondary set of “waves” through the piece. Its surfaces have been hand burnished, the brush strokes reflecting light like the sun off the ocean. The Port of Oakland has long been a distributor of California’s bounty to the world and this piece celebrates both the local and international aspects of the marketplace.
