City of Stockton, CA
2009
It is the focal point at the main intersection leading to the Stockton Airport, standing 40 feet above the street. The totem-like sculptural form is inspired by the ancient cultures of the people that make up the community: African, SE Asian, and South American. Developed through a design process using 3D computer modeling, the work has a different character depending on one’s direction of approach. Community leaders have embraced the Airport Gateway artwork as a symbol of hope and rejuvenation. Commissioned through a national competition by the City of Stockton for the redevelopment of the Airport Gateway corridor.
