Boundless Pond
stainless steel, sapele wood
30′h x 10.5′w x 3.5′d
2009, Jack London Market Building, Oakland California
Boundless Pond is installed in the lobby of the $150 million Market Building on the waterfront in Oakland, CA. The image combines rings emanating across a “liquid” surface with an abstract pattern of steel lace representing the cornucopia of the Market and all it’s interactivity. This flat pattern has then been formed into a series of curves that create horizontal bands, giving the piece further sculptural dimension while metaphorically sending a secondary set of waves through the piece. The Port of Oakland has long been a distributor of California's bounty to the world and this piece celebrates both the local and international aspect of the Market. Nor Cal Metal Fabricators & Leon Bros. Fabrication worked seamlessly with the Studio to build the sculpture.
